2026 Annual Meeting Highlights

The 2026 American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) Annual Meeting was held July 28–30, 2026, in Orlando, Florida. The meeting brought together poultry veterinarians, researchers, industry professionals, and other avian health experts for a broad scientific program addressing current issues in poultry health and production.

The program featured presentations and discussions on a range of topics relevant to avian health, with a particular focus on emerging and re-emerging poultry diseases. A major scientific highlight was a symposium on avian metapneumovirus (aMPV), covering epidemiology, diagnostics, surveillance, vaccination, and management of aMPV in U.S. poultry operations.
The meeting also provided opportunities for professional interaction, continuing education, and discussion of current challenges facing the poultry industry.

2027 Joint AAAP/PSA Annual Meeting

AAAP and the Poultry Science Association (PSA) will hold a joint Annual Meeting on July 12-15, 2027, in Fort Worth, Texas. The meeting will take place at the Fort Worth Convention Center and will provide opportunities for collaboration between the poultry science and avian veterinary communities.

AAAP and PSA are currently accepting symposium submissions for the 2027 meeting and symposium abstracts are due September 23, 2026.

Additional information about registration, programming, and the joint meeting will be shared as it becomes available.

New Book: Avian Diagnostic Cases: Pathology and Diagnosis

Congratulations to Dr. Tahseen Abdul-Aziz and Dr. Harold John Barnes on the publication of their new book, Avian Diagnostic Cases: Pathology and Diagnosis.

Published in July 2026, the book presents a collection of avian diagnostic cases focused on pathology and diagnosis and provides a valuable resource for veterinarians, diagnosticians, researchers, and others involved in poultry health.

Update on Avian Diseases

Avian Diseases is the official journal of the American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP). The peer-reviewed journal publishes research, case reports, and other scientific information related to avian health, diseases, and poultry medicine, making it an important resource for veterinarians, researchers, and other professionals working in the field.

Avian Diseases continues to develop under the leadership of Dr. Randall Singer, Editor-in-Chief. Dr. Singer began his third year as Editor-in-Chief with the publication of Volume 70, Issue 1. He has emphasized the importance of the journal’s editors, advisory board, and volunteer reviewers in maintaining the journal’s scientific standards. The journal has a hybrid format, allowing authors to select either standard publication at no cost or Open Access for their publications. The cost of Open Access is cheaper than most similar journals.

Each year, a Special Issue is published on a topic that is timely for poultry veterinarians and scientists. These Special Issues are entirely Open Access and contain Invited Reviews from leaders in the field. The journal is available through its new online platform, where readers can create an account to save content, sign up for alerts, and share articles. All published papers get posted online as soon as the proofs are finalized, allowing the article to be circulated before the official issue is released.
